A self-love activity

Updated: May 27, 2022

Many people struggle with loving themselves. We are told that having confidence is being ‘cocky’ or that we shouldn’t speak too highly of ourselves around others. People say that we are our own worst critics, and that sure is true. Everyone can work on loving themselves a bit more, and this activity (taught to me by my wonderful therapist) can aid in doing just that.

For this activity, you will need:

  1. Sticky notes

  2. a marker/ pen

  3. Full length mirror

  4. A boat load of bravery

Every single day, for as long as you’d like, you are going to look at yourself in the mirror and write down a compliment about yourself. There are no rules about what type of compliments are allowed– could be about your body, mind, or soul. You’re going to write these compliments on sticky notes and stick them all around your mirror. As the compliments add up, you’ll read each one daily before adding a new one to the mix.

The only rule is that you shall not speak negatively about yourself within this safe space that’s been created.

The goal of this activity is to practice self-love, even if it feels like a chore. Overtime,by doing this, we trick our brains into believing what we have wrote, even if you didn’t believe it to begin with.

I love giving this “assignment” to my clients who express a lack of confidence. I tell them to do this activity everyday up until our session and most have reported that it gave them a huge boost in confidence. One thing to remember, is that each confidence journey is unique. There will be days you want to quit, and just tear yourself to shreds– but don’t. It’s okay to have rough days, but don’t let a bump in the road end your entire journey to self love.

Happy complimenting!
